Proceeds of Testimonial Gift to Benefit Health Science Center Library
This year, Sandra Fackler made a testimonial gift to the College of Medicine for $7 million and 25% of the endowment income will benefit the Health Science Center Library. That will average $70,000 annually for the purchase of materials to aid students and faculty in their teaching and research in the Department of Neuroscience. This is the only example of a gift with this unique structuring in academic medical libraries in Florida, and as best we can determine, nationally.
Sandra is a long-time benefactor of the Smathers Libraries and member of the Library Leadership Board. In 2012, she and her late husband Martin established the Drs. Martin and Sandra Fackler Director of Health Science Center Libraries Endowment. The Health Science Center Libraries were the first health science or medical library in Florida to have an endowed faculty director. It was also the first endowed faculty position in the University of Florida library system.
